There are certain people you meet that steal your heart, leave a permeant impression on your soul, and completely change your life. I met my best friend when we were six years old, she became my sister and she became my other half. We got into all kinds of trouble growing up, fought like cats and dogs, but when push came to shove we were each other’s protectors. You picked on one of us, you got both of us. As we grew up our relationship strained but the quiet times between us sometimes said the most. Later in life we stood next to each other to celebrate our weddings and then to celebrate the birth of my children. She is truly just as much of a part of me as my right hand. However, as much as my right hand means to me, as much as my sister means to me something I value even more than those two things is ME!
Recently, I watched the movie Bride Wars and the quote at the end of the movie really struck a chord with me… “The one person who knows you sometimes better than you know yourself is the same person who’s been standing beside you all along,” is actually yourself! Sometimes it’s hard to know one’s self and a lot of the time it is hard to love one’s self but it is really the one relationship that needs the most work. Without self-love and self-worth it is hard to have long lasting, substantial relationships with people. To some this may seem selfish but if you do not take care of yourself it is really hard to take care of others.
This Valentine’s Day make time for yourself. Have a spa day, go shopping, take yourself out for a fantastic dinner or simply take a long bubble bath and give yourself a mani/pedi! But love yourself, take time for yourself, and know yourself and I think you will be surprised how the rest of your relationships flourish! Happy Valentine’s Day from all of us at One Salon.
One Love, One You, One Salon!
In the partnership between One Salon and One Life’s Journey one of the key focuses is to provide beautiful human hair wigs to women who are navigating life’s toughest journeys. One Life’s Journey has been very fortunate with amazing hair donations from across the country and this trend continued during the partnership with One Salon. The stylist’s at One Salon have been so amazing to off their time and talent to provide free haircuts to people who are compelled to donate a 9 inch virgin pony tail.
One of these amazing donation stories came from a very special young woman. After three years of growing her hair out, her long blonde locks was literally her crowning achievement. The longer she had her hair the harder it was for her to think about parting with it. However, after seeing people who have lost their hair to cancer treatments she felt compelled to do something. At the One Salon Grand Opening she made the day extra special by donating over ten inches to One Life’s Journey. She has since embraced her short sassy hair knowing that it will grow back and when it does she plans to donate her hair again!
Ready to donate!
Stories like this make our heart swell with pride for our Salon and our partnership with such an amazing organization. For more information on One Life’s Journey you can visit onelifesjourney.org or come by the salon! We would love to show you around the cancer support boutique and our space in Downtown Grapevine, Texas!

There is something about watching Chopped that makes me want to jump in the kitchen and start cooking. Or Project Runway that makes me want to raid my closet and put together fabulous outfits. Inspiration and creativity are contagious, there is something about seeing people come up with amazing things that make me want to be equally amazing.
Life can get monotonous; a daily routine, a weekly schedule, a productive life but a boring life. For me it is important to find a good balance between my structured routine and feeding the creative animal within me. Finding a new recipe on Pinterest and spicing up my weekly grocery shopping is one of my favorite ways to add some inspiration without breaking the bank or disrupting my expertly scheduled week.
Recently, I got into essential oils. I love my diffuser and that I can custom tailor scents to fit my mood! Clove is by far my favorite, it has such a warm and spicy feel that can be uplifting by adding orange and spearmint or relaxing with nutmeg and sandalwood. Oils give me a fun and easy way to express my feelings or change up the way I am feeling.
Shake it up, literally if you are using oils! I hope this brings some inspiration to your daily life or ideas to release any pent up creative tension! We also want to hear from you!
